Since Rock Band announced an end to its weekly DLC, Downloadable Content, (Rock Band Network DLC continues, insofar as I know), it seemed few new avenues were available to see Japanese rock music in mainstream video games.

Until Rocksmith 2014!

In the last few weeks, I’ve seen a number of bands added to Rocksmith’s DLC. B’z was one of the first. As of now, these are the artists populating the exclusive “J-Rock” category of Rocksmith: 9mm Parabellum Bullet, B’z, Golden Bomber, Hotei, Kazuyoshi Saito, ONE OK ROCK.

As some of you may recall, there was a “Jrock” category in the Rock Band 3 game, which was likely in anticipation of having Japanese artists in the game. Dir en grey is currently the only band in Japan included in the game.

With BandFuse: Rock Legends only recently being released, this opens up yet another avenue being forged by pioneering artists as mentioned above. Who else would be a great fit for these types of music video games? If you could make the pick, what artists would you tell, ‘you should be in this game!’? Old favorites? Top artists today? Legends of rock in Japan? Who fits best for the guitar-oriented Rocksmith as opposed to the (almost) full band experience of BandFuse: Rock Legends?
