Live Report: Utada Hikaru Jan 2010
Created: 01 Feb 2010

Utada Live Report - January 19, 2009 - House of Blues Sunset Strip

It's automatic—from her first step onto the House of Blues Stage, to the first chord strummed by her guitar player. From the smile stretched on her face to the first note that she sings, Utada is a crowd pleaser. It had been a rainy week in Los Angeles. Raining in Los Angeles is equivalent to there being a hurricane in most cities around the world—people do not want to go out, and the roads are not meant to be driven on.

Live Report: PMX Saturday Night
Created: 01 Feb 2010

The second day of any convention tends to be the busiest, with more events than one can humanly attend lined up one after another. One of these events, in the early Saturday afternoon of Pacific Media Expo, was a small concert called Hydraphonic.

Live Report: Quaff at AnimeUSA

As fans slowly made their way in and crowded their way around the stage, you could feel the anticipation in the air. Most of the attendees had already been to the first set on Friday night and were anxious to experience this band's energy for a second time. As Megaphone Man (a many year veteran staff member for AUSA) took the stage, the attendees cheered their approval knowing that Quaff was only moments from appearing.

Live Report: X Japan in Hollywood, CA
Created: 14 Jan 2010

The intersection of Hollywood and Highland is a well-known tourist spot in Los Angeles. People in costumes of famous characters line the Walk of Fame for tourists' amusement while shoppers buzz in and out of the five-story mall. However, even the locals knew something special was going on Saturday, January 9, 2010, when the structure built on the roof of Sephora was revealed to be a stage, and a crowd formed on the sidewalk below to gaze between that and the large screen located next to Express, at the main entrance to the Hollywood and Highland Center. There were differently dressed up people that day, carrying signs and flags and stuffed dolls with pink hair. When asked "What's going on?" members of the crowd replied, "X Japan are filming music videos."

International Jrock Project Presents: KESHIKI
Created: 23 Sep 2009

KESHIKI means 'landscape' in English and as one could comprehend from the band name, their endeavors to create songs that would bring visions of landscapes to whoever listens to their music. This band is well known in not only Japan, but all over the West Coast of the United States as well because of their formation in Los Angeles. It all began in the United States, and the way the members united to form KESHIKI was quite peculiar.

Japan Nite Live Report LA
Created: 08 Apr 2009
Since 1996, Japan Nite has been bringing Japanese music to the SXSW Music Festival in Austin and dotting various cities in the US with alternative and indies Japanese bands. Some bands experience such surprising success, like ELLEGARDEN, that they come back to do solo lives. Nearly a dozen bands were on the roster for 2009, although not all bands played at all stops. The live in Denver nearly didn't happen due to the insane surprise blizzard (I guess the snow wanted to go to Japan Nite too), so many fans were forced to stay home for their own safety. Luckily, no other spots faced weather hardships, and most concerts went on relatively on time.

Japan Night at the Los Angeles Knitting Factory was packed in a sea of rockers, punkers, and normal-lookin' folk, but the lolita tribes that flock to these events were mostly absent. The age range was a bit higher than the teenage demographic.

The Return of Roses: Versailles Live
Created: 28 Feb 2008

Versailles.

The eyes and ears of Jrock fandom have been upon them for months now. They took the smart, modern direction with their YouTube and MySpace, giving potential fans worldwide a chance to behold their Revenant Choir. After building success at home in Japan, they're ready to jump forward with their plans to take on the world, a part of the program from the very start. And it's already paying off---the newly announced show from Tainted Reality at Los Angeles popular live house the Knitting Factory is open for sale, and it's already set to SELL OUT in a matter of weeks.

The fruits of KAMIJO and HIZAKI's aesthetic vision are easy to taste at the Versailles MySpace, but you may be wondering still whether or not this band is killer in person.

Here's why you shouldn't wait and miss your chance to catch their American debut at A-Kon and in L.A. or their upcoming Aesthetic Revolution in Europe Tour (more details at their MySpace): a picture of the members of Versailles as seen live in Tokyo at the close of last year upon their sixth month anniversary. This combined report reflects on the impact of shows with ANTI FEMINISM at famous Jrock career-launcher Meguro Rokumeikan on December 21, and with fellow Sherow Artist Society musicians at Omotesando Fab on December 24.
